There are snowflakes in my eye

Last night we had a ring around the moon which is supposed to mean we are going to get some type of bad weather be it rain or snow.... I tried to capture it but my camera's lens is on the low end so this was the best I was able to do:

The ring around the moon is still pretty easy to see, it
is caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere BTW

So it started to slowly snow this afternoon...

It started falling a little faster....

Then it really came down for a while...

But alas since the ground was not all that cold so even though we had a pretty good amount of snow falling, the amount we ended up with on the ground was slightly more than an inch....Ah well not much you can do with an inch of snow it is almost worse than not getting any at all.

Rain!

Where we live we have been in a bit of a serious drought, the US Department of Agriculture has actually declared 85 of our 100 counties drought-related disaster areas. It is so bad we would need two feet of rain just to get us back to where we need to be for this time of year!

This is a local lake, the picture does not really do it justice but that little body of water in the middle is actually the middle of the lake. All that dry ground you see is usually deep under water!
Remember THIS post? That was the last time it rained, over three weeks ago. Fortunately yesterday, we got some heavy rain.....

Sheet of rain falling in front of the door

On the driveway the rain quickly started creating puddles, we got about two inches in all.

The impending storm

I love extreme changes in weather, especially summer thunder storms. The weather can be all sunny and happy and then in a flash the wind is whipping your face, the temperature drops and the sky is flooded with dark fast moving clouds. The rain starts to come down in sheets and all one can do is stare at the wonder of it all. It is exhilarating just to stand in a clearing and wait for the storm to start around you....The other afternoon was one such day, the wind actually got so bad we had a dead tree crack in the back yard.
