A dancing video

So last month I mentioned that I was going to post a video from the monthly contra dance a bunch of my friends and I participate in. Somehow that video was lost or recorded over so I never got to see or post it, but last Friday was May's dance and a clip has made it into my hands. Just as a warning it is rather long and since this was the first time some of us had done this dance there were a few hiccups but it was still fun.

I don't know how many readers are actually in the area but if you are interested in getting in on the action, we are always looking for new converts, the next dance is going to be June 13th in Carrboro, NC

Very cool...and hilarious in spots. :) Y'all should be featured in some modern day remake of a Jane Austen movie. A homeschooled version of Pride and Prejudice...

BUT...it looked like the ladies were turned out nicely in pretty swirly skirts while the guys were slacking in shorts and t-shirts. Step it up, guys...of course your legs will get hot, but at least you never have to wear pantyhose. :)

    And it does look complicated!

It may look complicated but the steps are really pretty simple. As to the shorts and t-shirts, I have in the past danced all decked out, tie, pants, dress shirt, vest even gloves.

If the air conditioning is working you are good, if not you are a puddle...and since the air system in Carrboro leaves much to be desired, even in shorts and t-shirts after several hours it can get quite steamy. Some folks even bring a change of clothes in case they get too sweaty!

    Ewww...

There's supposed to be a cotillion-style dance Thursday night at the NCHE conference...is that similar to contra?

I am not what they mean by cotillion-style, there is a dance called the cotillion, which is similar to modern square dancing in that you have four couples. Contra is two couples facing each other usually in a long line.

That looks like fun...but somewhat confusing :)

All those who are worried about the complicatedness (whoa spell check says that word is spelled correctly- who knew?) of the dances shouldn't be. Messing up is alot of the fun when learning a new dance, finding yourself halfway through the wrong part of the dance and with a different group then when you started with is always fun!
